Thai students are usually well behaved ones although they are pretty fun loving and some of them are bit troublesome. Thai students love to get entertained in the class. To them, a teacher is either like a game show host or a dancer who will keep on motivating them.
Thai schools are highly disciplined ones and kids are asked to march like soldiers. No nonsense attitude is appreciated. The schools are very strict about the dress codes. Most of them have shirts for the boys and skirts for the girls. Boys must have a proper hair cut and girls should have bob hair. International schools are bit relaxed.
When you are asked to teach at any private language school, your students will be the adult ones coming from various socio economic and professional backgrounds. Some come for their basic interest in English language while others want to pursue a career with this language. Most of them learn English so that they can communicate with the foreigners as Thailand being a fascinating tourist spot is regularly visited by an impressive number of foreigners while others want to learn English before they fly to foreign land for further study.
Some students think that learning is a decent job and so they start learning English. Most of the students lack the basic English communicative skill and so they entirely depend on the teacher for a miraculous success. The problem is Thais lack the time and energy they are required to spend on learning a new language.
Thais are basically fun loving people and your class has to be pretty interactive to garb their interests. Otherwise, they become bored easily. Lesson plans should include lots of language based activities, grammar based games. Being a teacher you have to plan for a lesson which will slowly induce the spirit of interest regarding English into them. You can even take a test but please allow them to see what others have got. They would love to get similar grades as they are not very comfortable with poor grades or fail marks.
