Thai Foods for English Teachers
It is said that food is perhaps the best attraction in Thailand. You will go crazy while exploring the numerous restaurants, street food stalls and open air markets on the both sides of the streets of Thailand. You can even get food at midnight in Thailand and that too quite hot and yummy. Interestingly it has been found out that the number of dishes that are seen in United States are just 5% of the total prepared in Thailand. Thai food is extremely colorful and tasty prepared with lots of spices.
You can avail the food offered by both the stand alone restaurants which are more professional in their services and the front store restaurants which are run by family. The ambiance at the family run restaurants is more cozy and friendly. You can even select your choice of seafood from the fresh things that are displayed. Décor is not that important in these kinds of restaurants. You can expect to get awesome noodles over there with the type of meat you want.
Thai people are sensitive enough to understand the problem of the westerners. People from the west are not very comfortable with this kind of spicy Thai food. So, some of the restaurants often offer bland food. But if you want to have a taste of the original Thai flavor, then it is surely the spicy hot food.
It would be wrong to assume that you will not get anything other than Thai food over there. You can try out the non- Thai food centers or the Italian, Japanese, French and even Indian restaurants in Thailand. So, the travelers can expect to get their choice of food in Thailand.
The cost of living in Thailand is pretty lower than that of New York. So, you can expect to get good food at affordable cost over there. A plate of Thai food with some rice and soft drink will cost you 40 to 70 baht in a small restaurant. The same plate will cost you 100 baht if you are having it at Bangkok’s Khao San Road. The tourist orientated restaurants will charge you bit more for the western style food. You can expect to have a meal at those restaurants with a range of 150- 300 baht. Two meals at the reputed Thai restaurant will cost you 300 to 500 baht. You can have grilled chicken with sticky rice from a street vendor at 20 baht. Drinks are pretty affordable in Thailand. A large 630ml Singha beer will cost you only 50 baht. You can get a small one of 330 ml of the same at any average bar at 60 to 150 baht. 1 litre of bottled water will cost you 7- 12 baht. A low end bottle of wine from supermarket will charge you only 450 baht. You can have 20 Thai brand cigarettes at 20 baht and 20 western brand at 45 baht.
Thus, the westerners will not be having any problem in meeting the cost of food in Thailand. They will find that the money they used to spend in their native countries for square meals is much more than they need to spend in Thailand. Thailand offers food of great variety and at different costs so that people from all social strata can afford Thai food. Now the choice is yours. You can have food at a gala Thai restaurant or even from a street vendor.
